April's Child provides a comprehensive internship program for students obtaining their Masters' Degree in Social Work from Columbia University, New York University, Fordham University, Simmons College and the Hunter College School of Social Work.

Fieldwork combines the school’s requirements with the student's needs/expectations, providing an individualized learning experience including:

  • Participation in intensive 12-hour training program
  • Student orientation program
  • Participation in weekly Friday morning Group Supervision sessions
  • Have a caseload of 3-7 client families utilizing the home visitation model
  • Taking telephone referrals
  • Developing referral sources
  • Performing Initial Needs Assessments (psycho-social intakes)
  • Answering HelpLine calls
  • Developing, marketing and facilitating a parenting group
  • Being involved with a community outreach/education project
  • Facilitating a Group Supervision meeting
  • Presenting a case presentation
  • Receive one-on-one training and supervision

Students may also have the opportunity to:

  • Write grants
  • Develop/supervise projects
  • Participate in fundraising
  • Perform research and administration
  • Provide corporate outreach
